The incredible coastal village that’s about to be Asia’s next big thing
But my favourite property is nearby Samanea Beach Resort, where 12 villas are scattered throughout the hotel’s lush, greenery-filled grounds. The long pier that extends out over the clear water is the perfect place to admire Kep’s spectacular sunsets, and there’s an open-air spa area and swimming pool. Sales manager Jonathan shows me the plant-based carrier bags used by the hotel before taking me on a tour of the property, with its vegetable gardens and on-site accommodation for staff. But as much as I’d love to sprawl by the pool, there’s too much to do.[...]
Retreat to the quiet
Tucked away between a protected mangrove forest and the sea, this all-villa resort is built on the foundations of abandoned seaside cottages. Rebuilt with local stone, the Family Suite villa is decorated with Cambodian antiques and has a huge outdoor bathtub in a sprawling garden with complete privacy. Kampot et Kep : sel, poivre et crabe
Ensuite au Samanea Resort, je suis passée dans une toute autre catégorie, celle du luxe. Il s’agit, de loin, du plus bel endroit où j’ai séjourné durant ma petite vie de voyageuse.
Le Samanea est un complexe de 12 villas intégrées dans un jardin botanique de 2ha. Try et Noëlle sont très attentifs à la préservation de leur environnement. C’est ainsi qu’ils ont conservé et protégé une mangrove qui se trouvait déjà sur place à leur arrivée, installé des panneaux solaires qui fournissent 40% de leur électricité, trouvé des alternatives aux produits toxiques, réalisé un système de filtration des eaux usées, construit une piscine d’eau salée (pas d’utilisation de chlore).
La beauté des lieux est sans appel et j’aurais pu y passer beaucoup plus de temps à bouquiner sur la plage privée de sable blanc, à observer le coucher de soleil (ou de Lune !) depuis le ponton de 207 mètres de long, à chercher des crabes dans la mangrove, à goûter aux délicieux plats du restaurant.[...]

Le charme de Kep se manifeste dans le jardin bucolique de l’hôtel : les manguiers et tamariniers foisonnent, les oiseaux sont omniprésents, quelques pêcheurs de palourdes passent à la marée basse, qui découvre le sable à perte de vue. Chaque soir, avant le dîner, on complète sa collection de couchers de soleil.[...]
Repos salvateur à Kep
Le Samanea, un complexe à taille humaine dans un jardin botanique de deux hectares, arrive loin en haut du peloton avec son cadre infiniment reposant, sa piscine de 300 mètres carrés, sa mangrove privée et sa plagede sable fin sous les palmiers. Seul le chant mélodieux des oiseaux anime ce petit coin de paradis doté, pour que le plaisir soit total, d'un restaurant aux plats toujours délicieux.[...]

This luxury Kep resort a few miles north of Kep, Cambodia, is a perfect place to relax on the beach or unwind by the pool. For people who are looking for a tranquil or romantic retreat, these villas set in a lush botanical garden are ideal.
As adventure-loving as I am, there’s a side of me that longs to unwind with a drink by the pool and sink into a huge comfy bed at the end of the day. Luckily, there’s a style of rustic luxury accommodation that allows me to hang onto my adventurous credibility while spoiling myself rotten.
Samanea Beach Resort in Kep, Cambodia is a great example of this type of hotel. The resort is on several acres of lush property bordered by mangrove forest and looking out onto Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam and the Gulf of Thailand beyond. The villas are built in traditional Khmer style with tightly woven grass roofs and spectacular outdoor bathrooms.[...]

For a slightly unusual little paradise, check out the Samanea (Rain Tree) Beach Resort located in the centre of a large Botanical Park with a protected mangrove forest and wooden boardwalks meandering through it on the seashore of Kep on the Southwest coast of Cambodia. The fascinating thing about Kep is that it was founded as a seaside retreat for the French elite in 1908; the history and its stunning national park make it an ideal destination for the discerning traveler today.[...]

Samanea is a new 5 star resort opening in Kep in July 2014. I was lucky enough to be a ‘preview’ guest, watching the project manager putting the finishing touches on the resort and hearing about the plans for the future.
The 8 villas (10) rooms were built amongst extensive landscaped gardens on the coast of Kep in 2012 but was never opened due to family reasons. The owners have now engaged the services of Belgian antiques dealer, Alain Garnier, who is behind the charming Governor’s House in Phnom Penh, to create something special at Samanea.[...]
